"We don't tell our clients
what to do. We listen. We try to understand
our clients' business objectives. Then we package
our technology and pricing information so our
clients can make their own decisions."

This long involvement has provided Don a front row seat
on the dramatic evolution of microcomputer technology and
markets. Don recalls, "I was selling commercial electronics
in 1976 when the very first computer stores opened in the
Bay Area. These early computers came in kits and had to
be assembled. The users were mostly hobbyists although commercial
uses such as word processing developed right away."
Dons interest in the technology has always been rooted
in how the technology can improve business processes. "In
the early seventies, I was working as a statistical analyst
for a consumer marketing research firm. We hooked up with
a service bureau running an IBM mini-computer. I saw first-hand
how automation could transform a business an entire
industry."
Welch Business Systems reflects Don's extensive background
in both business and technology. "I believed we could
build a viable business if we could find a way to apply
our technical expertise to help people succeed at their
business. We set out to find 'Clients for Life', customers
that would see us as important elements of their technology
team, now and into the future."
